It’s always a good practice to select educational tools according to your current skill level. Your level of experience and proficiency with watercolor and drawing determine which tools from the Creative Watercolor portfolio will be most effective in advancing your painting practice.

Please note that these are only rough guidelines. There’s no reason why a complete beginner couldn’t study a more advanced subject matter. Even though they might not be able to fully appreciate it yet it’s guaranteed to give them an advantage as their experience expands.

Beginner

Choose this level if you don’t know anything about watercolor or have very limited experience. And most of all, if you want to start your practice right.

Complete beginner doesn’t know much about drawing or watercolor painting. And that’s fine! It’s where everybody starts. Let me help you lay a solid foundation for prolific and successful painting practice!

Beginner+

Choose this level if you get inspired by different artists and switch styles often. There’s nothing wrong with versatility but it may be time for you to start striving for your own artistic identity.

Student in this category is familiar with drawing and watercolor technique on an elemental level. They experiment with a variety of subjects and paint them in a variety of ways but don’t yet have a clear vision in terms of their artistic identity.

Intermediate

Choose this level if you’re sick of inconsistent results. What you need is to rebuild your painting practice upon a solid foundation. Understand the creative concepts and master design.

The intermediate student is fairly proficient when it comes to watercolor and drawing skill but they generally paint what they see without deliberate creative input. Understanding the underlying creative concepts can help redefine your painting practice.

Advanced

Choose this level if you’re already quite good but need something to tie your practice together. You need to start looking at the big picture.

The advanced student knows their way around a painting. They’re familiar with design and understand the function of its elements and principles in a painting. Increasing the awareness of the big picture and overall patterns can mean that final push towards mastery.
